Versions 1.1 and 1.2 · September 2026
Gyre comes to Apple Watch
The full game on the wrist, built for the Digital Crown. All 64 mazes, no iPhone required. Version 1.2 follows with more free levels, a crown that snaps into place, and new icons.
- Turn the Digital Crown to rotate the selected ring. Swipe to roll the marker. Tap a coloured thumb, or bump the wall twice, to switch rings.
- New in 1.2: the crown snaps rings onto open gaps, so lining up a passage takes one clean turn.
- Stars sync both ways between iPhone and Apple Watch.
- New in 1.2: levels 1-8 are free on the watch, up from 1-5. One purchase unlocks all 64 mazes and can be restored on any watch.
- New in 1.2: turning one ring several times in a row counts as a single move, the same way the solver counts par.
- A short gesture guide on level 1 shows the moves.
- Remove Ads on iPhone is a one-time purchase, restorable on a new device.
- New in 1.2: new app icons, with a dark mode version.
- The board and its text fit every screen size.
Why it stands out
-
Every maze is solved before it ships
Each level is generated, then checked by an exact solver. A way out always exists from any position, and par comes from the shortest solution the solver found. Replay a level and it is the same maze - a puzzle to learn, not a random roll.
-
A native fit for the Digital Crown
Turning a ring is the whole game, and the crown is the natural way to do it. Pick a ring, turn, roll. Sessions are short and complete in themselves, so the watch is a first-class place to play, not a companion.
-
Quiet by design
No timers, energy bars or move limits. No accounts. Works offline. A cream daylight theme and a night theme follow the system appearance.
-
Honest pricing
Free with a small non-personalised banner on iPhone. Two one-time purchases and nothing else sold. No subscriptions, no loot boxes, no request to track.
Apple technologies
- Native SwiftUI app for watchOS that runs without an iPhone
- Digital Crown rotation as the primary input on Apple Watch
- Progress sync between iPhone and Apple Watch
- Haptic and sound cues on both devices, each switchable
- System light and dark appearance
- App icon with a dark mode version
- One-time in-app purchases with Restore Purchases
- Fits every iPhone and Apple Watch screen size
Accessibility and comfort

- Sound, haptics and motion cues can each be turned off
- No timers or move limits. Undo and restart on every level
- Whole-board gestures on iPhone - no small handles to hit

Short · 80 words
Gyre: Spin Ring Maze is a rotating-ring maze puzzle for iPhone and Apple Watch. Six coloured rings stand between the marker and the compass. Turn the rings until their gaps line up, roll the marker through, and find the shortest way out. Every one of the 64 mazes is checked by an exact solver, so a route always exists and three stars means the best possible run. On Apple Watch the Digital Crown turns the rings - no iPhone needed.
App Store promotional text

What's new in 1.2

The Apple Watch update · 1.1.0
Gyre comes to Apple Watch. New Apple Watch app: all 64 mazes on your wrist, turned with the Digital Crown. The first levels are free; one purchase unlocks the rest. Your stars now sync both ways between iPhone and watch. Remove Ads is now a one-time purchase you can restore on a new device. A short gesture guide on level 1 shows you the moves. The board and its text now fit every screen size.
How to play
Several rings can cover the same wall. Dots on the centre line show which rings still block the way; a green ring means the passage is open. Finish at or under par for three stars. One star unlocks the next maze.
iPhone
- Swipe anywhere on the maze to rotate the selected ring
- Tap a coloured thumb below the maze to pick another ring
- Swipe the marker up or down. It rolls as far as the open gaps allow
